VERNON D. KNIGHT III
Vernon has over 15 years of experience in residential construction, specializing in major renovations and custom homes. He brings vision, attention to detail and a desire for the highest-quality construction to every project, no matter the size. He is passionate about his work and making sure his clients are thrilled with his team’s construction skills and work ethic, as well as with the finished project. A true Charlottean, Vernon still lives in the same house he grew up in. Vernon earned a bachelor’s in Communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
JoEl grew up in Summerville, S.C. where her family still resides. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from the College of Charleston in 1998 and moved to Charlotte in 1999 to continue a retail career with Belk. She was named Buyer of the Year in 2005 and received the Pacesetter Award of Excellence. Most recently, JoEl was the director of operations for local baby accessory company, Bella Tunno.
Like so many Knight Residential Group team members, Brian is dedicated to growth and learning. He has more than 17 years of operational and financial experience in executive roles in residential construction, and came to us after serving as vice president of finance for one of the largest residential electrical contractors in North Carolina. Even after nearly two decades of experience, this East Carolina University graduate feels he has much more to learn. He’s currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration at the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, a goal that will make him an even greater asset at the Knight Residential Group.
Joe is another Knight Residential Group team member who comes from a family dedicated to the art and craft of construction. This third-generation craftsman enhances every project he embraces with the insights and expertise gained over the course of 20 years spent building residential, light commercial and agricultural structures. Originally from the Washington D.C. Metro Area, Joe relocated to Charleston in 2005 to start a new construction division for a large Mid-Atlantic production home builder. Today, this highly knowledgeable senior builder is an active participant in the Charleston Homebuilders Association and Charleston Historic Preservation Society.
When John Welch brought his detail-oriented nature and dedication of quality to the construction industry after graduating from college, he knew right away that he had found his career “home.” After working as a foreman for a small building and remodeling company, he spent 10 years as a project manager for one of the Southeast’s leading luxury homebuilders. The experience he gained at John Wieland Homes & Neighborhoods in communicating with customers and managing the construction of high-end, semi-custom, homes at a high-volume level continue to be invaluable for Knight Residential Group and everyone we work with. John calls himself an “Army brat” who was born in Germany, raised mostly in Virginia and moved to Charleston in 2002. His bachelor’s degree is from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.
Originally from Atlanta, Tom moved to Charleston 2-1/2 years ago. After graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in economics, Tom worked in sales with Ferguson Enterprises in Atlanta. He brought his in-depth understanding about constructing baths and kitchens to his next role as a builder with John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods. Tom has been building on Daniel Island since he moved to the Lowcountry and joined our team in May 2016 to work on the Cottages in Cassique.
Director of Construction
Residing in the Charleston area since 1997, Chris brings over 25 years in the residential construction industry. He is a University of Georgia graduate with a degree in Economics. His experience on Kiawah Island includes the project management of the Cassique Garden Cottages, where the first model home was featured as Costal Living Magazine’s “Cottage of the Year” in October 2005.
The phrase “like father, like son” is especially true for this Knight Residential Group project manager. At age 14, Alex started working for his father, a licensed general contractor based in Brevard, N.C. He saw firsthand from an early age what it took to build high-end custom homes. After graduate school, he broadened his knowledge of the industry while working for a Charlotte-based commercial construction company. There he managed projects for JPMorgan Chase and other financial institutions all over the U.S. Alex earned his bachelor’s in Building Science: Architectural Design & Technology/Construction Management, as well as his MBA, from Appalachian State University.
